Celebrating Jaquelinn Fernandez, Michigan Police Officer

Jaquelinn Fernandez, Active Police Officer and our October 2018 Missilette

Serving as a Woman on the Police Force

This incredible woman is so much more than just a pretty face.  Jaquelinn has served 10 years as a Detroit Cop and 2 years in the city of Warren, where her daily activities included hand to hand combat, foot chases and even being shot at.  It takes guts and perseverance to voluntarily serve the most dangerous city in the nation, and thats a position that Jaqeulinn takes to heart.

What It Means to be Mentally Tough

Working in a male dominant industry in the roughest city meant that she couldn't appear to be a pushover, or she wouldn't survive.   Jaquelinn admits that seeing so much death takes a mental toll on a person, which is why she transferred out of Detroit after 10 years.  She says that there's something within a human where, "you either have it or you don't, and that's running into danger knowing that the outcome could be losing your life in exchange for someone else's."

The Dark Realities of Serving Public Safety

"There were days when I put my uniform on and grabbed my badge and gun and had a poke at my heart that said, you might not come home.  But I wouldn't change it.  I care about other people more than I care about myself - I like to see people succeed." Even as a young girl, Jaquelinn remembers being intrigued by emergency lights and sirens from the backseat of her mom's car.

"Some are meant to call the police,
and others are meant to be the police."

Jaquelinn's planned 20-25 years until retirement was very hard financially, mentally and politically.  She chose to take on an additional career as a financial coach through Primerica.  Now, in addition to being an Active Police Officer, she also helps to target the needs of people that are being neglected by traditional companies by providing services of debt-prevention and retirement saving.
